€2.1m a Win: The Champions League Money Riding on Arsenal and Man Utd

Every Champions League league-phase win is worth €2.1m in 2026/27, on top of an €18.62m starting fee. Here's UEFA's full prize money breakdown as Arsenal and Man Utd play tonight.

A Champions League win is worth €2.1m in prize money this season, and Arsenal and Manchester United go for their second of the league phase tonight. Arsenal host Lille and United visit Atletico Madrid, both at 8pm UK time, and the figures in UEFA's owndistribution circular for 2026/27show how quickly those wins add up.

All five English clubs won on matchday one. Arsenal won 1-0 at Napoli, United beat Sabah 4-0, Man City won 2-0 at Porto, Liverpool beat Atletico 2-1 and Aston Villa won 3-2 at Club Brugge.

That means each of them has already banked €20.72m in fixed payments: the €18.62m starting fee every league-phase club receives, plus one win bonus. Payment Amount per club Starting fee (league phase) €18.62m League-phase win €2.1m League-phase draw €700k Finishing 1st in the table €9.9m Top-eight bonus (on top) €2m 9th-16th bonus (on top) €1m Knockout play-offs €1m Round of 16 €11m Quarter-finals €12.5m Semi-finals €15m Final €18.5m Winning the final (extra) €6.5m UEFA calls these expected amounts rather than guarantees, because the final sums depend on the money it actually collects from broadcasters and sponsors.

How the league table pays out Every place in the 36-team table is worth money. UEFA splits the ranking pot into 666 shares worth an initial €275k each.

The bottom club gets one share, 35th gets two, and so on up to 36 shares (€9.9m) for whoever finishes top. Draws across the league phase push the value of each share up slightly, because the unpaid part of every drawn game is added back into this pot.

On top of that, clubs finishing first to eighth get an extra €2m and those in ninth to 16th get €1m. The top eight also go straight into the round of 16, which carries €11m.

That's where the real gap sits. A club in eighth collects roughly €21m from its ranking money, the top-eight bonus and the round-of-16 payment.

A club in ninth gets about €9.7m and then has to win a two-legged play-off to unlock the same €11m. For Arsenal, United and the rest, a top-eight finish is the financial target, more than any single result.
