Aussie teenager makes debut hours after new club announce arrival from Premier League side

Australian teenager Rylan Brownlie debuted in the EFL Trophy after joining EFL League One side Barnsley in England. Barnsley announced the permanent signing of the 19-year-old Brownlie on Wednesday (AEST) following a stint with the Premier League’s Crystal Palace in their academy setup. Hours later, Brownlie came off the bench for Barnsley in their penalty shoot-out loss to Leeds United Under-21s midweek. He was introduced at half-time. Brownlie signed for Brisbane ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. The young forward became Roar’s youngest ever A-League Men’s goalscorer, having made his professional debut in October 2023. Brownlie went on to make 11 appearances during that season before departing for Crystal Palace as a free agent in 2025.
