AFC Leopards clinch first FKF Premier League win with late Sichenje strike

News AFC Leopards earned their inaugural 2026/27 league victory, beating Kenya Police 2-1 at Nyayo National Stadium thanks to a stoppage‑time goal by Ronald Sichenje. AFC Leopards recorded their first triumph of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season, edging Kenya Police 2-1 at Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday.
The hosts opened the scoring early in the second half when Kevin Luke Otiala found the net in the 49th minute, giving Ingwe a brief lead. Kenya Police responded around the hour mark, with Elvis Rupia converting a chance created by Edward Omondi, who cut the ball back from the by‑line to level the match.
The equaliser restored pressure on Leopards, who needed another goal to secure maximum points after a contentious first half that saw a Tyson Otieno effort ruled out amid protests. In stoppage time, Ronald Sichenje broke the deadlock, delivering a decisive strike that sealed the 2-1 victory for AFC Leopards.
The match was marked by a tense atmosphere after supporters threw objects onto the pitch following the disputed goal‑line decision in the first half. The win lifts Leopards off the bottom of the table after a goalless draw in their opening fixture against Bandari, while Kenya Police remain winless after a draw with Migori Youth.
Leopards can now look to close the gap on early leaders Gor Mahia, who have started the campaign with victories over Murang'a Seal and APS Bomet. The club's next league encounter is scheduled for Sunday, 25 October, when they host Shabana FC at Nyayo National Stadium, aiming to build on their first win.
