Alphonso Davies on bench, Bayern Munich visit Viking FK on Champions League Matchday 2

For the second UEFA Champions League match in a row, Alphonso Davies' Bayern Munich find themselves preparing for a Norwegian opponent. The Canada captainscored a brilliant goal against Bodø/Glimt in a 5-0 thrashingin the opening round of the competition at Allianz Arena, but this time the German giants make a 1,600km trip north to play the competition debutants Viking FK.
Viking lost their first-ever match in this competition to another German club, Stuttgart, falling 3-1. All four goals came in the span of 12 minutes, with Zlatko Tripić interrupting a quick Ermedin Demirović hat trick.
Things won't get any easier for Viking, who sail the choppy seas of hosting one of the world's best clubs. The 15,900-capacity Viking Stadion will be a vastly different experience to if the game had been held at the 75,000-seat Allianz Arena.
There is also a notable difference with the playing surface - Viking Stadion has an artificial turf pitch, much more rare in European competition than it is in North America. "It's not a big issue for us, we've come early to do the right preparation.
Tomorrow is only about football," manager Vincent Kompany said. His side arrived in Norway ahead of usual to get an extra training session on the pitch.
"It doesn't matter what the game brings tomorrow, we need to go into it thinking that anything can happen and we're prepared for it all," he added. Canadians might wince at the thought of Davies playing on turf after his long injury saga over the past 18 months.
He has started every match in all competitions this season up until now, but is on the bench to begin Tuesday's game. Bayern of course go in as heavy favourites, and are expected to win comfortably.
But nobody expected Bodø/Glimt to beat Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Sporting CP last season either. Norwegian clubs, like any team good enough to qualify for the Champions League, can't be underestimated at risk of getting complacent.
FCB is also keen to get back into the win column afterbeing held to a 2-2 draw by Augsburg in the Bavarian Derbyover the weekend. "We're focusing only on our potential, our game," said Jonathan Tah.
