Ampem Darkoa Ladies qualify for CAF Women's Champions League for second time

Ampem Darkoa Ladies have qualified for the CAF Women's Champions League for the second time after beating Nigeria's Edo Queens 3-2 after extra time in the WAFU Zone B qualifying final in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The Ghanaian champions secured the final ticket to the 2026 tournament after a dramatic conclusion to the regional final, which resumed from the start of extra time with the score tied at 2-2.
The result settles a disputed qualification contest that began on September 5 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, when the two sides drew 2-2 after regulation time. Edo Queens were initially declared winners after claiming a 4-1 victory on penalties.
However, Ampem Darkoa lodged a protest through the Ghana Football Association, arguing that the match should have proceeded to extra time before a penalty shootout. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) subsequently annulled the shootout result and ordered the final to resume with two 15-minute periods of extra time.
The CAF Appeal Board upheld that decision on October 16, paving the way for the decisive encounter. Ampem Darkoa, who previously represented Ghana at the competition in 2023 and eventually finishing fourth will now return to the continental stage after overcoming the Nigerian side in the rescheduled fixture.
The Techiman-based club will compete in Group B of the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League alongside defending champions AS FAR of Morocco, Kawempe Muslim Ladies of Uganda and USFAS Bamako of Mali. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Egypt from November 1 to 15, 2026.
Ampem Darkoa's qualification ensures Ghana will be represented at Africa's premier women's club competition, with the club hoping to make another strong impression on the continental stage.
