Bruno Fernandes to Al-Hilal: Why €55m Man United transfer is 'Unlikely' in January

Bruno Fernandes has played nearly 350 times for Manchester United. Within a day, Ben Jacobs said there is no truth in suggestions the Saudi club will rekindle their interest this winter.

Fernandes has 12 months left on his United contract, so the story is unlikely to disappear. The Football Whispers Index scores every transfer rumour across five weighted factors.

Football Whispers Transfer Index Bruno Fernandes to Al-Hilal 45/100 TPI Unlikely Ben Jacobs says Al-Hilal will not revive their interest this winter, despite a reported €55m January bid plan. On paper the move works, because Al-Hilal can afford the fee and have no established attacking midfielder.

The reporting is what holds it back, because the only source for the bid is Tuttomercatoweb and Jacobs has contradicted it directly. The most decisive fact is Jacob's claim that every foreign-player slot in Al-Hilal's squad is already full.

Financial viability Financial viability 17 / 25 Tuttomercatoweb reported on 2 November that Al-Hilal are ready to bid around €55m (£45m) in January, and no club has lodged an official offer. Al-Hilal's 2025 approach was reported at up to £100m before Fernandes turned it down, so the January figure is less than half that.

Fernandes's contract expires on 30 June 2027, and Manchester United hold an option to extend it by 12 months. Al-Hilal said their 2024-25 revenue passed $340m, a figure the club says would have put them in the top 20 of Deloitte's Football Money League.

The reported €55m is less than half of the £100m Al-Hilal were said to be ready to pay in 2025, which makes this a far smaller ask than the one Fernandes rejected. His contract expires on 30 June 2027, and United's 12-month option means they hold leverage on timing.

Al-Hial said their 2024-25 revenue passed $340m, so a fee of this size is not a stretch for them. Buying club need Buying club need 15 / 20 Saimon Bouabre, 20, is the only specialist attacking midfielder in Al-Hilal's squad.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Mohamed Kanno are listed as central midfielders, so the vacancy is for a creator rather than another body in the middle. Fernandes recorded 9 goals and 21 assists in 35 Premier League starts in 2025-26, a record assist return for the competition, and turned 32 on 8 September.
