Canada's Daniel Jebbison, Promise David left out for Bournemouth, Brighton Premier League matches

It's not been all sunshine and rainbows for Canadians in England. Canada striker Promise David wasdropped from Brighton's matchday squadto face Crystal Palace in Premier League action on Sunday, after playing the final 33 minutes for the Seagulls in their 4-0 rout of Lithuanian side FK Kauno Žalgiris on Thursday in the UEFA Conference League.

His countryman and position-mate, Daniel Jebbison, faredno better for Bournemouth, missing out of the Cherries' group for their Sunday affair against Sunderland. Jebbison was not registered for Bournemouth's UEFA Europa League list, meaning his latest minutes for the club came in a Sept.

Jebbison rode the bench as Chelsea claimed a 5-1 win over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge last Saturday. The duo have struggled for playing time this season in the face of recent loan and transfer moves.

Jebbison had spent the last two seasons out on loan to Watford (in 2024-25) and Preston North End (in 2025-26) from Bournemouth after joining the South Coast side on a free transfer from Sheffield United in July 2024. While there was transfer interest in the 23-year-old Canadian this summer, withthe promise of playing time in the Championship, Bundesliga, or Serie A, no move ever materialized, seemingly relegating him down to a backup option.

David, meanwhile, made his dream Premier League move a reality, at least in part, joining Brighton on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise. The Seagulls have an obligation to make it a permanent deal if certain performance metrics are met.

His appearances have continued to be limited as he gets up to speed with with his new team, in a new environment. The obligation-to-buy clause could, perhaps, also be a limiting factor, if playing a certain minimum number of games is a component of the clause.

If Brighton like what they see from David, but not the associated price tag, they could attempt to renegotiate a new price with Union Saint-Gilloise to still keep ahold of David come next season. Otherwise, the Seagulls could also have David's recent hip injury in mind.

Despite the 25-year-old'srapid recovery to make Canada's World Cup squad, he has started just two of the 15 total matches he was eligible to, across club and country. One could imagine that Brighton are hoping to ease David in action, between the injury and the higher level of play, given their current cushion in the Premier League table.

Brighton and Bournemouth both got off to lightning starts on Sunday against Crystal Palace and Sunderland, respectively. The Seagulls have kept pace with the best of the Premier League to start the campaign, entering into Sunday's match against Crystal Palace second in the league, behind Manchester City.
