Aston Villa are third in the Champions League table after Matchday 2 following a 6-0 win over Fenerbahce. Liverpool and Arsenal are also in the top eight, while Man City dropped to 17th after losing 4-2 to PSG.

Aston Villa are third in the Champions League table after Matchday 2, while Man City have dropped to 17th following Wednesday's 4-2 home defeat by PSG. Villa's 6-0 win over Fenerbahce took them level with leaders PSG and second-placed Barcelona on six points and a goal difference of +7, separated only on tie-breakers.

Nine of the 36 clubs have won both games. Liverpool (fifth) and Arsenal (seventh) are among them, so three English clubs sit inside the top eight that go straight to the last 16.

Man Utd are 13th after Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Atletico Madrid. Champions League table 2026/27 after Matchday 2 Green rows are the automatic last-16 places (top eight).

Liverpool, 5th (6 pts, +4): A 6-3 win in Linz included a Bradley Barcola hat-trick, but conceding three to LASK, now 33rd, is why Liverpool sit below Villa on goal difference. Arsenal, 7th (6 pts, +4): The only side still without a goal conceded after two games, following a 3-0 win over Lille on Tuesday (our Arsenal 3-0 Lille player ratings).

Man Utd, 13th (3 pts, +2): The2-0 defeat in Madridleft Carrick's side in the play-off band, three points off the top eight. Man City, 17th (3 pts, 0): PSG were 3-0 up after 32 minutes at the Etihad.

Erling Haaland scored twice, but Maghnes Akliouche's goal in between kept the gap at two. We think City's place is the one to worry about, more than United's.

Their next two games, AEK Athens at home and RB Leipzig away, are winnable, but a side that wants a top-eight finish can't afford many more nights like this one. Real Madrid and the rest of Wednesday's results Real Madrid were 3-1 down in Rome after 57 minutes and still won 4-3.
