Como Make Champions League History With 9-1 Win at Lens

Como made Champions League history on Wednesday after recording a stunning 9-1 victory over Lens, becoming the first away side to score nine goals in a single match in the competition. The result marked another major achievement for Cesc Fabregas and his team, who have now secured three wins from their first four matches in their debut Champions League campaign.

The Italian side also climbed to fourth place in the league phase standings. "Today everything went our way," Fabregas said.

"A great night for Como and our fans." Before this result, the highest number of goals scored by an away team stood at eight. Bayern Munich achieved that mark with an 8-2 victory over Barcelona at a neutral venue in Lisbon in 2020.

Como's nine-goal performance also equalled the competition's biggest winning margin. Liverpool and Real Madrid had previously recorded 8-0 home victories against Besiktas and Malmo respectively.

Tasos Douvikas led Como's attacking display with a hat-trick, extending his impressive scoring run. The striker has now scored in all four of the club's Champions League matches and leads the competition's scoring chart with six goals.

Another notable moment came from Nico Paz, who found the net but chose not to celebrate in the usual way. Instead, he picked up a T-shirt bearing the image of Jesús de Miguel, a Tenerife forward who died after an on-field collision with an opposing goalkeeper.

Paz previously spent time in Tenerife's youth system between 2014 and 2016, making the gesture particularly meaningful. Como also received goals from Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali and Martina Baturina, while Matteo Papaccioli completed the scoring.

Papaccioli's appearance added another special detail to the historic night. The 18-year-old came on during the second half and plays for Como's youth team.

He has yet to make an appearance in Serie A.
