Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to an illustrious 23-year career with the national team. The 41-year-old forward leaves behind an incredible record of 146 goals in 243 appearances, making him the highest-scoring player in men's international football history.

Ronaldo confirmed his decision in a social media post on Thursday, accompanied by the caption, "Portugal will always be in me." His retirement comes following reports of a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus during the previous international break. "Today I finish my walk on the pitch with the national team.

I leave with my head held high, with pride in the path I took, and with the awareness that I gave everything I had for Portugal," he said. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner also reflected on his legacy, noting that while goals, trophies and records may eventually fade, the memories and emotional connections with supporters will remain forever.

During his remarkable international career, Ronaldo led Portugal to victory at Euro 2016 and secured two UEFA Nations League titles, establishing himself as one of the greatest players to ever represent the country. Concluding his farewell message, the football icon wrote: "Thank you for these 23 years.

Thank you for having believed in me. Portugal will always be in me."
