Declan Rice earns Premier League nomination after helping Arsenal end Anfield hoodoo

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has been nominated for the Premier League's Player of the Matchweek nine award following his impressive display in the 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield. Rice was nominated alongside Chelsea's Romeo Lavia, Tottenham Hotspur's Jan Paul van Hecke, Brighton & Hove Albion's Bart Verbruggen, Hull City's Ollie McBurnie and Everton's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The England international delivered a midfield masterclass as the Gunners registered their first victory at Anfield in 14 years. Rice produced a low cross for Kai Havertz's winning goal, registering his third goal involvement against the Reds and his first at Anfield since joining Arsenal.
He recorded the joint most shots, highlighting his offensive involvement, while making huge defensive contributions as Arsenal fought hard to protect their lead. Pundit Jamie Carragher described Rice as 'world-class' and the 'best midfield player in the Premier League', having been impressed with the midfielder's performance in his old stomping ground.
Lavia could be one of his closest challenger for the Player of the Matchweek award following his outstanding display in Chelsea's victory over Manchester United. Verbruggen is another, having produced an outstanding performance in Brighton's victory at Manchester City.
Rice would become Arsenal's third different Player of the Matchweek winner this season, following Martin Odegaard (Matchweek three) and goalkeeper David Raya (Matchweek four). The 27-year-old is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up when in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League game against Czechia side Slavia Prague.
The midfielder scored the equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich last time, securing a point for Mikel Arteta's side.
