Egyptian Premier League 2026-27: 20-team format, dates and broadcast details confirmed

The Egyptian Premier League will begin its 2026-27 season on Friday, 21 August 2026, with 20 clubs competing in a new format before the campaign concludes in May 2027. The first phase will run until 20 February 2027, with every club playing 19 matches for a total of 190 fixtures.

Matches will normally kick off at 17:00 or 20:00 Egypt time, while games during Ramadan will start at 21:30. The Egyptian Clubs Association has confirmed that the competition will then split into two groups.

The top six clubs will enter a championship group and play 15 further matches, home and away, to decide the league champions and determine qualification for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. The remaining 14 teams, occupying positions seven to 20, will compete in a relegation group featuring 91 matches.

Four clubs will be relegated to the Professional League at the end of the season. Only three clubs will be promoted from the second tier, meaning the 2027-28 Egyptian Premier League will contain 19 teams as part of a gradual reduction in the size of the competition.

The final phase is scheduled to start on Monday, 8 March 2027, with the league title due to be decided in May 2027. The 2025-26 campaign featured a close contest between الزمالك, بيراميدز and الاهلي, with الزمالك winning the title on the final matchday.

بيراميدز had also established itself as a major force after winning the CAF Champions League in 2024-25. The current season is notable for the absence of الاسماعيلي, who have been relegated for only the second time in their history and for the first time in 68 years.

Broadcast information and standings The Egyptian Premier League will be shown exclusively by the ON Sport network. Live streaming will also be available through the ON Sport app and the Kora Plus website.

The published standings list الاهلي first with 16 points from six matches, followed by بيراميدز on 15 and الزمالك on 13. سيراميكا كليوباترا have 12 points, while مودرن سبورت and الاتحاد have 10 each.

المقاولون العرب and السويس بتروجيت have seven points, followed by القناة and الجيش on seven. وادي دجلة, الشرقية انبي and سموحة have five, four and four points respectively, while ابو قير للاسمدة have three.
