Listen or Read Below: Audio By Carbonatix For years, professional football players have been sharing their faith on social media. From Tim Tebow to Patrick Mahomes, Kurt Warner, Reggie White, and Demario Davis.
Lately, however, top clubs have also leaped to share how their players live out their faith in the everyday. English Soccer Club Brentford FC of the UK Premier League, for example, has decided to release a new faith-based series called Football and Faith.
The report follows the livesofPortuguese midfielder Fábio Carvalho, Brazilian forward Igor Thiago, and British midfielder Josh Dasilva. As thewebsiteexplains, Carvalho, Thiago, and Dasilva have formed a "close-knit circle," where they pray, read the Scriptures, and share important moments in their Christian walk.
This includes the recentbaptismof Carvalho and Dasilva. But Brentford isn't the only team to recognize the importance of Christ to their team.
Just a few months ago, Chelsea Football Club also highlighted the significance of a relationship with Jesus by sharing stories of British and French center-backs Trevoh Chalobah and Maxence Lacroix. Everton FC also posted testimonies on their official public accounts.
One example was Portuguese striker Beto Bentuncal who called playing football for the English club"God's gift." To date, Christians in Sport in the United Kingdom has reported that 75% of clubs recognize that they have Christian players, 40% regularly host Christian activities, and half of Premier League clubs reported regular Christian gatherings. Graham Daniels, director of Christians in Sport, noted, "In an environment where identity is constantly tested by success, failure and public scrutiny, many players are looking beyond football itself for meaning, purpose and security.
Christianity is not disappearing from the professional game; it is far more present than most people realize. Growing up Amber looked for faith and mental health resources and found none.
Today, she offers hope for young Christians struggling with mental illness that goes beyond simply reading your Bible and praying more. Because you can love Jesus and still suffer from anxiety."
