Ex-Premier League Star Denies Assaulting Man In Nightclub

Ivan Toney, an England striker and former Premier League star, denied attacking a man in a Soho nightclub as he appeared in court for the first time. The 30-year-old is accused of assaulting Saber Da Silva at a nightclub in Wardour Street, central London, on December 6, last year.
Toney appeared in the dock at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning (October 1) to confirm his name and age, pleading not guilty to a charge of assault resulting in actual bodily harm. According to the Daily Star, the former Brentford forward arrived at court shortly after 9.30 a.
m., accompanied by three members of his entourage. He was dressed in a black top over a shirt and tie.
During the 10-minute hearing, prosecutor Tom Heslop stated that the alleged assault occurred at the 100 Wardour Street club amid a "confrontation" between Toney and Mr Da Silva. District Judge Briony Clarke stated the case could be heard in magistrates court, but Toney chose a Crown Court trial before a judge and jury. Toney was released on unconditional bail until a hearing at Southwark Crown Court in October 29.
The criminal case stemmed from a Metropolitan Police investigation, and the charge was issued in late July. Toney played for England in the World Cup this summer and has made 10 international appearances, scoring once. He did not make the most recent squad list for the country's Nations League matches.
Toney began his football career with Northampton Town and later played for Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United before joining Brentford in 2020. He scored 72 goals for the Bees over four years before an unexpected move to Saudi Pro League team Al-Ahli in 2024."
