Twenty-two-year-old Ghanaian center-back Kojo Oppong sustained a serious injury during the Göztepe match, forcing him to leave the pitch in the 84th minute to be replaced by Yiğit Efe Demir. Oppong had entered the starting lineup to cover for the absent Nathan Aké, and television and press observations noted the young defender leaving the stadium on crutches.

Addressing the substitution after the final whistle, Fenerbahçe manager Dirk Kuyt stated, He felt a pain and made a sign that he wanted to come off, as reported by Sözcü Gazetesi. With Oppong expected to miss the continental clash, tactical adjustments point toward a central defensive pairing of Milan Skriniar and Yiğit Efe Demir when Liverpool visits Kadıköy.
