Former Pirates winger to face Sundowns in CAF Champions League

A former Orlando Pirates winger is expected to be in action against Mamelodi Sundowns. Angola's Wiliete SC face the reigning African champions across two legs later this month.
These CAF Champions League ties could be redemption for Angolan winger Gilberto. Gilberto, whose real name is Deivi Miguel Vieira, may be familiar to PSL fans.
He joined Orlando Pirates on a three-year deal from Petro Atletico de Luanda in June 2024, according toiDiski Times. However, the Angolan winger struggled for a regular place under former coach Jose Riveiro.
Gilberto was then loaned back to his former club, where he made 26 appearances, scoring once and providing 2 assists. He was eventually released from his Pirates contract in June 2026 with about a year remaining.
According to Transfermarkt, Gilberto made just 12 appearances for the Buccaneers without a goal contribution. What happened after he left Orlando Pirates?
Since leaving, the former Pirates winger is trying to revitalise his domestic and international career. Gilberto was recalled by Angola's national team for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers in September and October.
He stayed on the bench in the draw against Egypt, and was a late substitute in the 3-1 win against Malawi on 6 October. He also scored for his current club Wiliete in the CAF Champions League first preliminary round against Foresters FC.
The team advanced to the second preliminary round 5-0 on aggregate. Gilberto now has a chance to redeem himself in a high-stakes environment in a few days' time.
