Former Premier League star accused of selling fake Covid vaccination certificates

Mexican filmmaker Juan Jose Lopez Ordonez accused the midfielder and his former father-in-law, Jonathan Toache Bedolla, of selling the documents for upwards of £370 a piece. The allegation, made at a press conference on Thursday, is the second time Ordonez has publicly targeted the Hammers player in recent weeks.
In September, the film producer claimed Bedolla's family had forced him into a vehicle at gunpoint in Mexico City in 2024, alleging Alvarez knew about the kidnapping despite not being directly involved. The 27-year-old firmly denied any connection to that incident.
He now stands accused alongside Bedolla and an unnamed doctor of running a counterfeit vaccination document operation. According to Ordonez, who says he personally observed the forgery network in operation, the bogus certificates featured official stamps, signatures and functioning QR codes.
The scheme allegedly allowed a number of public figures to circumvent pandemic-era travel restrictions by obtaining proof of vaccination without actually receiving the jab. Speaking at Thursday's press conference, Ordonez said: "The moral burden is very heavy, and here I am facing the music.
If I bear any responsibility, the authorities will determine that, but I can no longer hide this. Among those named in the leaked document are fashion model Montserrat Oliver, actress Yolanda Andrade, musician Jay de la Cueva and actor Alfredo Adame.
They are alleged to have sought the falsified certificates from Alvarez and Bedolla in order to avoid vaccination. Under Mexican law, the fabrication of public health documents constitutes a federal offence.
Authorities could therefore open a formal investigation into the claims. In response to the previous kidnapping claim from Ordonez, Alvarez said: I categorically reject any allegation or attempt to associate my name with events, conflicts, or conduct that are entirely unrelated to me.
With his club, West Ham currently sit second in the Championship and are preparing to host Southampton at the London Stadium on Saturday. Despite being on the books with the Hammers, the Mexican international has not featured in every single Championship matchday squad this season.
