Former Rangers employee takes up senior position at Premier League side Sunderland

Rangers have seen one of their former employees join Premier League side Sunderland. The Gers have overhauled their backroom staff since the new owners arrived in May 2025.

There have been a number of changes in the coaching and non-coaching staff at Rangers, with Andrew Cavenagh aiming to run a smoother operation behind the scenes. What have YOU made of Andrew Cavenagh's time as Chairman?

He has been in his position at the Stadium of Light since August 2026, after spending just under a year in his previous role. Prior to that, between January 2023 and November 2025, MacFarlane was at Ibrox and held two different positions at the club.

Initially, he joined as Facilities Manager before being promoted to Head of Facilities. Rangers News understands that he is still held in high regard by the staff at the club, but no attempt was made to bring him back to Glasgow ahead of his move to Sunderland.

Currently, Jamie Cooper and Suzanne M. are in charge of the facilities department.

The club had considered making a like-for-like replacement for MacFarlane towards the back end of last year, but have prioritised other areas since then. As things stand, it is unlikely that a new Head of Facilities will be appointed for the foreseeable future.
