From Premier League prodigy to CanMNT OG: Canada teammates happy to see Junior Hoilett get his flowers

"Big brother," "father figure" and "OG" were some of the words used to describe Junior Hoilett in Canada camp this week. The 36-year-old was one of the players that paved the way for future generations of Canadians, and will rightly get a hero's sendoff on Saturday at BMO Field when Canada plays Chile in their first match since the World Cup.

What exactly that tribute looks like - or if Hoilett takes the pitch for a 70th and final Canada cap - remains to be seen, but it will be a chance for fans and teammates to honour the longtime Premier League and Championship stalwart. Hoilett did not make the squad for this summer's World Cup, but was there in 2022 when Canada qualified for the first time in 36 years, playing in all three matches.

Hoilett took his time committing to Canada while he weighed up playing for Jamaica or seeing if he was eligible for England, but then he never looked back when he did finally put on the maple leaf in 2015.
