Ghana Premier League: Medeama edge Debibi as Samartex beat Young Apostles

Medeama SC maintained their position at the top of the Ghana Premier League table as Matchday Five produced a series of exciting encounters across the country. The defending champions were among several sides to claim important victories over the weekend, with FC Samartex, Aduana FC, Heart of Lions, Port City and Basake Holy Stars also picking up maximum points.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw by struggling Dreams FC, while Vision FC and Gold Stars also shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw. Dreams FC 0-0 Hearts of Oak Hearts of Oak missed the opportunity to move higher up the table after being held to a goalless draw by Dreams FC at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The Phobians created opportunities but were unable to find the decisive finish, while Dreams also came close to breaking the deadlock. Mohammed Shaban picked out Razak with a well-weighted pass in the first half, but the forward failed to make the crucial connection.
Hearts also threatened, but Dreams goalkeeper Rahman Osman produced an important save to keep the scores level. The result leaves Hearts fourth with eight points, while Dreams remain bottom with just two points from five matches.
The Phobians have now gone three league games without scoring, while Dreams are still searching for their first win of the campaign. Vision FC 0-0 Gold Stars Vision FC were also forced to settle for a point after playing out a goalless draw with Gold Stars at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex.
Vision were hoping to build on their 1-1 draw against Berekum Chelsea, but struggled to break down a disciplined Gold Stars defence. The point offers some relief following their 2-0 home defeat to Port City last weekend.
Vision remain ninth, while Gold Stars continue to occupy a position in the relegation zone. Debibi United 0-1 Medeama SC Medeama strengthened their grip on top spot with a narrow 1-0 victory over newly promoted Debibi United.
Nana Kofi Babil scored the only goal of the game in the 68th minute to extend Medeama's unbeaten start to five matches. The Mauve and Yellow now have 11 points from a possible 15, with three wins and two draws under head coach Ibrahim Tanko.
FC Samartex 1-0 Young Apostles FC Samartex kept pace with the league leaders after edging Young Apostles 1-0 at Nsenkyire Park. Christian Agyenim Boateng converted a first-half penalty to settle the contest and maintain Samartex's unbeaten start.
