Ghana Premier League: Medeama stage stunning comeback to beat Basake Holy Stars 4-1

Medeama SC produced a remarkable comeback to record their first victory of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season after defeating Basake Holy Stars 4-1 at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium on Sunday. The Mauve and Yellows fell behind early in the contest but responded with an outstanding attacking display, scoring four goals in a dominant first-half spell to completely change the direction of the match.

Basake Holy Stars started the game with greater urgency and were rewarded in the 14th minute when Patrick Ocran found the back of the net to give the home side the lead. The opening goal gave Basake Holy Stars hope of securing a positive result, but Medeama quickly settled into the contest and began putting pressure on the hosts.

Their persistence paid off in the 26th minute when Prince Owusu brought the visitors back on level terms with a well-taken finish. The equaliser completely changed the momentum of the game, with Medeama suddenly finding greater confidence in attack.

The rapid succession of goals left Basake Holy Stars struggling to regain their composure, while Medeama continued to dominate the attacking exchanges. Medeama then completed an extraordinary first-half scoring spree when Kingsley Braye added another goal before the interval.

Braye's strike gave the visitors a commanding 4-1 advantage going into the break after they had scored four times following their early setback. Basake Holy Stars needed a remarkable response in the second half to get back into the contest, but Medeama managed the game intelligently and prevented the hosts from reducing the deficit.

The Tarkwa-based side remained organised and concentrated on protecting their substantial advantage as the second half progressed. Basake Holy Stars attempted to create opportunities and find a way back into the game, but Medeama's defensive organisation ensured that the hosts could not produce another breakthrough.
