Ghana Premier League: Medeama thrash Heart of Lions to open three-point lead at the top

Medeama SC strengthened their position at the top of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League table after recording a convincing 3-1 victory over Heart of Lions at the TnA Stadium on Sunday, October 11. The reigning champions produced another impressive performance in Week Six, scoring three goals to secure all three points and establish a three-point lead over second-placed Hearts of Oak.

Former Nations FC winger Emmanuel Annor opened the scoring in the 27th minute, giving Medeama an important advantage after a positive start to the encounter. Annor's strike rewarded the home side's attacking efforts and provided the foundation for another victory as the Mauve and Yellow continued their impressive run in the league.

Medeama maintained their advantage until the interval before returning for the second half with renewed determination to strengthen their grip on the contest. Kingsley Braye then took centre stage, scoring twice in the space of just two minutes to put the champions firmly in control.

Braye found the back of the net in the 64th minute before striking again in the 65th minute, giving Medeama a commanding 3-0 lead and leaving Heart of Lions with a difficult task. The quickfire double underlined Medeama's attacking efficiency and effectively put the hosts in a comfortable position as they sought to see out the remainder of the match.

Heart of Lions managed to pull one goal back through Kofi Mawutodzi Agbadji, who scored to reduce the deficit to 3-1. However, the visitors were unable to mount a serious comeback, as Medeama remained composed in the closing stages to protect their advantage and secure a deserved victory.

The result takes Medeama to 14 points from six matches, giving the defending champions a three-point cushion at the summit of the league standings. Hearts of Oak occupy second place with 11 points, while Medeama continue to demonstrate their determination to defend the title they won last season.

The victory also reinforces the importance of the TnA Stadium as Medeama seek to maintain consistency throughout the campaign. For Heart of Lions, the defeat represents their second loss of the season and leaves them 12th in the standings with eight points.

Despite Agbadji's consolation goal, the visitors struggled to contain Medeama's attacking threat, particularly during the decisive spell in the second half when Braye scored twice in quick succession. Medeama will now look to build on their strong start as the league campaign progresses, with their latest victory providing further encouragement in their title defence.

Heart of Lions, meanwhile, must regroup and work towards a positive response in their next fixture as they seek to improve their position on the league table.
