Guinness says matchday parties to continue despite cancelling Premier League trophy tour to Uganda

Guinness has cancelled its much-anticipated Premier League Trophy Tour in Uganda, disappointing football fans who had been looking forward to the trophy's scheduled visit from October 11 to 13, 2026. However, the cancellation will not affect the planned Guinness Matchday watch parties, which will proceed as scheduled, according to a statement issued on Saturday, October 10, by the organisers, Uganda Breweries Limited and the Guinness Brand Team.

"We worked hard to bring the Trophy Tour to Uganda between the 11th and 13th October 2026. However, despite our efforts, we have not been able to deliver it as planned, and it will unfortunately not be taking place as scheduled," the statement read.

The organisers apologised to fans, partners and stakeholders who had anticipated the event, acknowledging the disappointment caused by the cancellation. "We know how much this meant to fans, our partners and our stakeholders across Uganda.

We apologise for this unfortunate situation," the statement added. Despite the setback, Guinness reaffirmed its commitment to football fans in Uganda, confirming that the scheduled viewing events would go ahead as planned.

"Our watch parties will go ahead as communicated, and we will be in touch with our partners directly. We remain committed to football fans in Uganda," the organisers said.

The first event is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) Grounds in Nakawa, where fans will gather to watch the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Liverpool. The event will feature giant screens, live music and performances by Ugandan artistes, offering fans an opportunity to enjoy the football action alongside live entertainment.

Musicians Fik Fameica and Lil Pazo are expected to headline the entertainment lineup, joined by other local performers. Guinness will also offer selected fans the opportunity to win VIP live-viewing tickets for Premier League matches, with each winner allowed to bring a plus-one.

The celebrations will continue on Monday, October 12, at The Villa in Bukoto, with Coventry City scheduled to face Newcastle United in the featured fixture. The event will provide another opportunity for fans to watch live football in a social setting, with discounted Guinness bottle offers also expected to be available.

The organisers have maintained that the watch parties will proceed as communicated, despite the cancellation of the trophy tour. The planned watch parties form part of Guinness Matchday and Guinness Matchday on Tour, initiatives designed to bring football fans together to enjoy major Premier League fixtures through live screenings and entertainment.
