Harry Kane gives Vincent Kompany health update and discusses Premier League return after winning Ballon d'Or

WATCH NOW: Harry Kane reacts to winning Ballon d'Or. The England captain received the award at the London Palladium on Monday night after scoring 73 goals for club and country last season.

He became Bayern's first winner since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981. His success came during a difficult period for manager Kompany, who has been instructed to rest after Friday's collapse following a recent illness.

Kane disclosed that his club boss had called him on the morning of the ceremony, offering encouragement before the striker's moment on stage. The conversation also gave Kane an opportunity to check on Kompany, whose absence has left Bayern's staff covering his responsibilities.

Speaking after the ceremony, Kane said: "Yeah, he actually phoned me (Monday) morning, phoned me bright and early at 9am and I was just out of bed thankfully. He just wanted to wish me all the best and good luck.

I asked him how he was doing. He said he feels good and feels like he is on the mend, so I know he is the type of character that just wants to be back with the team already, out on the training field, out on the bench with us but it's important that he rests.

He's been going through a bit of a tough time with his health recently. The staff can cover it when he's not there, but yeah looking forward to going back to Munich to see him, to see all the staff, all my team-mates.

I have spoke about how this is theirs as much as ours so to celebrate with them a little bit, it will be special." Kane had already acknowledged Kompany during his acceptance speech, while he also thanked former club Tottenham. The 33-year-old scored 61 times for Bayern last season, adding another 12 goals for England.

With a contract extension expected to be finalised soon, Kane offered little encouragement to anyone hoping to see him resume his pursuit of Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record. Asked about returning to English football, he stressed that his ambitions remain tied to Bayern.

"Not at the moment, not right now, I'm loving life in Munich," Kane said.
