"He would do anything for this football club" - Peter Schmeichel claims Manchester United players forced star player to leave

Legendary Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has slammed Manchester United players, saying that they forced Rasmus Hojlund out of the club. He believes the players refused to pass him the ball, making it impossible for him to score.

Speaking on The Overlap, Schmeichel claimed that Hojlund was the perfect striker for Manchester United, but the players did not make the most of his abilities. The former goalkeeper stated that the coaches at the club also let him down and said: "Rasmus Hojlund was a goal machine.

And he will be a goal machine everywhere. He'll have periods where he doesn't score, but he will score a lot of goals.

He's young and from childhood, completely a Man United fan. He would do anything for this football club, and he played in the period where he had no service.

He had players there who very openly would not even pass it to him. A young kid, who needed to be coached in order to maximise his great talent which I think he has, I see him playing for Denmark.

(viaMetro) Schmeichel went on to state that Manchester United's signing of Benjamin Sesko is also facing a similar issue. He added that they wasted the chance to build with Hojlund, and are now stuck with a player who is injured more often than not.

He said: What do we do? Well, we got the head of recruitment in from Red Bull [United's director of recruitment, formerly technical director at RB Leipzig], and what does he do?

So you've got Benjamin Sesko, who is a great player but is always injured. We have already gone two years down the road with a striker who has so much potential.

Why did we feel the need to make a change there?" Sesko has scored two goals in his six matches for Manchester United this season, playing just over 200 minutes. Hojlund has the same number of goals in 11 games for Napoli, despite playing over 800 minutes.
