Hoddle disagrees with ex-Premier League ref on Bogle red card vs Tottenham

Glenn Hoddle and former Premier League assistant referee Darren Cann disagree on whether Leeds ' Jayden Bogle should have been shown a red card against Tottenham on Saturday. Bogle rushed in to challenge Mathys Tel and inadvertently stepped on the Spurs forward's ankle as he looked to make a tackle with his other foot.
Referee John Brooks didn't show Bogle a card of any colour but was told to wait by VAR, who watched the incident multiple times before advising the on-field referee to stick with his original decision. Hoddle doesn't think Bogle should have been sent off as "the game isn't played in slow motion".
Hoddle told TNT Sports: "In real time, I thought it was probably a yellow. This is the problem we have.
The game isn't played in slow motion. In real time, I'm not thinking that's a red card by any means.
When you see it from this view, if the referees sent over to the screen, this will be a red card. And for Mateta last week, the referee was sent over, he didn't see it in the game, he thought it was a mistimed tackle, which happens.
And as soon as he went over to the screen, Mateta was sent off. I think they tried to prevent the referee going over.
Because, for me, in real time, that looked like a booking, it looked like a foul. There was no violent play, he hasn't gone in there to go over the top of the ball.
So at the end of the day, he's tried to make a tackle with his right foot and it's the left foot that's caught the player. And I think that's what took so long.
'Serious foul play' But Cann says Bogle was fortunate as his challenge meets the criteria for serious foul play". He toldBBC Sport: "Jayden Bogle was, in my opinion, very fortunate to escape a red card for a challenge on Mathys Tel."
