Jonathan David's Atletico Madrid visit Stuttgart on Champions League matchday 3

It's not the Champions League game for Jonathan David against a German club that Canadian fans are so eagerly anticipating, but it'll have to do for now. David and the Spanish giants visit Stuttgart on matchday three.

Matchday four promises a mouthwatering Alphonso Davies-Jonathan David clash when Bayern Munich visits Madrid on Nov. 3 but the Canadian striker first has a chance to keep shining for Diego Simeone's side on Tuesday night.

Stuttgart have won both of their matches so far, but Atleti provide the strongest test yet. Ermedin Demirović's 12-minute hat trick powered them to a 3-1 win over Viking, before he scored again - along with Deniz Undav and an own goal from a defender - in a 3-0 win over Slovan Bratislava.

Atleti, meanwhile, lost 2-1 to Liverpool on the night David debuted for the club, before the Canadian played a key role in last week's2-0 win over Manchester United. After scoring in three games in a row, David has been kept off the scoresheet for three in a row - something he'd love to change.

Even when he's not scoring, David has been finding ways to set up his teammates and contribute off the ball, and the clubalready wants to make his loan a permanent transfer. The Spanish side, second in LaLiga and riding a 7-1-1 record so far after beating Espanyol on the weekend, will be the favourites coming in.

After finishing fourth in the Bundesliga a year ago, Stuttgart have underperformed to start 2026/27, losing 1-0 to Hamburg last time out to drop to 2-0-4 on the season and sit way back in 13th. Galatasaray is up next for Stuttgart on Nov.

3, with league games against Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen in between, as well as a DFB-Pokal match against Paderborn. Atleti have Deportivo de A Coruña and Levante on the schedule before hosting Bayern Munich in their UCL return, and then playing Barcelona a few days later in a crazy week.
