Kitara bow out of Confederation Cup after Cairo defeat - Uganda Premier League - Official Website

Kitara's CAF Confederation Cup campaign ended on Sunday after a 4-0 defeat to Egyptian giants Al Ahly in Cairo condemned the Ugandan side to a 6-1 aggregate loss in the second preliminary round. The Royals, who lost the first leg 2-1 in Hoima last weekend, needed a strong performance at Cairo International Stadium to keep their continental hopes alive but conceded twice in each half as Al Ahly secured their place in the group stage.

Hussein El Shahat opened the scoring in the 38th minute after capitalising on a goalkeeping mistake by Joel Mutakubwa to lob the Kitara custodian. Mohamed Magdi Afsha doubled the lead a minute before half-time, finishing from close and leaving Kitara with a difficult task in the second half.

El Shahat struck again in the 52nd minute, unleashing a powerful right-footed effort from inside the box to make it 3-0. Taher completed the scoring with a close-range header after connecting with substitute Ahmed Eid's cross, sealing Al Ahly's 4-0 victory and a 6-1 aggregate victory.

Kitara now shift focus to the domestic campaign, where they sit ninth on the league table with eight points from four matches. The Royals have three matches in hand.
