Luis Suarez has penned a heartfelt message for Lionel Messi after the Argentine legend played his last game for La Albiceleste on Tuesday. Taking to his official Instagram account, Suarez hailed Messi not only as a good player but also for his exemplary personality as a teammate and friend.

"Gordo, today you leave a legacy full of records, great moments and indelible memories as a player of your national team. You made history in South American soccer and world soccer.

Wherever you went you left your mark but always respecting your rivals and that makes you much bigger," Suarezwrote. "Congratulate you for every achievement achieved, because you never gave up, because to many you taught us that if one wants to fulfill dreams can be fulfilled.

You are an example as a PLAYER, that's more than clear, but a GREAT example as a person, as a partner and as a friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!" Suarez is currently the most active player with the most appearances with Messi. The pair first became teammates after Suarez joined Barcelona in 2014.

Now, they share the locker room atInter Miami. Lionel Messi had earlierannounced his retirement from international football, but Argentina decided to give their most-capped player a befitting farewell with a friendly match against Benin Republic in Buenos Aires.

In a post on his X handle, Ronaldinho, who assisted Messi's first goal for Barcelona, expressed his excitement and delight to have been part of the Argentine's remarkable, illustrious career and thanked Messi for making him enjoy football. "What a pleasure and what joy to have been part of your story from the very first day, brother!" Ronaldinhowrote.

"You made us smile and enjoy football so much!!! Your name is etched in the history of your country, of the whole world.
