Liverpool to battle Man United for Premier League star
Each club have the same positions among their ranks that need upgrading which makes it harder for each team to sign the players that they want. Article continues under the video Obviously, since both teams are two of the most well-known in the world, they have a lot of money to burn and, any clubs that are approached by them know this.
So, this often leads to both teams being given extortionate prices for the players that they want and often results in them being priced out for deals. But, since the market is only so big, many of the same players are bound to be linked with both clubs and now, once again, the same thing has happened.
One area of Liverpool's first-team squad that is still uncertain is their defence. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas' contracts all expire at the end of the current term and, at the moment, no negotiations are being held to renew them.
That is, despite all three of them still having prominent roles among Liverpool's first-team squad. In fact, Van Dijk is still probably the Reds' best defender despite being 35 years old.
So, the fact that Leeds United's Tarik Muharemovic is being linked with Liverpool proves that change could be afoot. "Tarik Muharemovic could be tempted to leave Leeds United at the end of the season amid interest from Premier League rivals," Football Insider wrote.
"The 23-year-old has been outstanding under Daniel Farke since his big-money move in the summer transfer window and has established himself as a key part of Leeds' plans. However, those performances have also attracted interest from a number of top Premier League clubs, including the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United.
Farke's side have set lofty ambitions to qualify for Europe, but failure to do so could see their best players tempted by interest from elsewhere, which will be a concern. However, there are no immediate fears over Muharemovic's future, with no plans to let him leave during the January window and optimism they can keep him long-term.
Muharemovic may not be as well known assome centre-backs such as Nico Schlotterbeckor Pierre Kalulu but, his Premier League performances are what set him apart. The Bosnian only just joined the West Yorkshire outfit this summer and, while most people didn't think much would come from Leeds United this time around, they've surprised everyone.
In fact, without Dominic Calvert-Lewin's impressive form, they'd be nowhere near as good as they have been. The fact that their defence has also been fairly solid has certainly helped matters."
