Liverpool to battle Manchester City for Premier League defender
The occasion almost always promises fireworks on the pitch, but most of the focus this weekend is on City's recent guilty verdict. Article continues under the video The 10-time league champions were found guilty of over 100 financial breaches and now face a potentially historic punishment that could include expulsion from the league.
For a fortnight now the entire football world has had their eyes on City and nothing will change on Sunday, but the recruitment team at the Etihad are carrying on as if nothing has happened. Manchester City to rival Liverpool for in-demand PL defender One of the potential punishments facing Enzo Maresca's side is a lengthy transfer ban, but that hasn't stopped the Citizens from joining the race for a top Liverpool target.
The Italian right-back is one of several targets City have earmarked for a move despite the impending punishment, but the Premier League leaders won't be unchallenged. Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are all also reportedly interested, with Juventus also eyeing up a move to bring the 22-year-old back to his native Italy.
It also made clear that Brentford have no intention of selling their star fullback anytime soon, with the Italian a key part of Keith Andrews' plans. Having only signed a new deal earlier this year Brentford are in a very strong position when it comes to negotiating a deal for Kayode, who is reportedly more than happy in West London.
A deal for Kayode won't be simple, but Liverpool's need for reinforcements at right-back will force them to be ruthless when the transfer window opens, and the Reds will do what they can to beat out the competition for the 22-year-old.
