For more than two decades, Manchester United and Chelsea contested one of the Premier League's defining rivalries. From the dominance of Sir Alex Ferguson's United to the rise of José Mourinho's Chelsea, meetings between the clubs often had title implications, featured some of the world's greatest players and regularly delivered unforgettable drama.
Here, we look back at some of the standout Premier League encounters between the two giants. Manchester United 3-2 Chelsea (April 2000) One of the earliest classics between the sides came at Old Trafford in the closing weeks of United's successful title defence.

The match was a perfect example of the quality both clubs possessed at the turn of the millennium. Chelsea 5-0 Manchester United (October 1999) While Ferguson's side enjoyed plenty of successes against Chelsea, one of their heaviest Premier League defeats came at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea tore United apart with Gustavo Poyet scoring twice, while Chris Sutton and Jody Morris also found the net in a remarkable 5-0 win. An own goal from Henning Berg completed the rout.
Even among Chelsea's many victories over United, few were as emphatic. Chelsea 3-0 Manchester United (April 2006) The Mourinho era produced some of Chelsea's greatest performances, and this was one of them.
Already on course for a second consecutive Premier League title, Chelsea delivered a dominant display at Stamford Bridge, securing a 3-0 victory over United and confirming their status as England's leading force at the time. The result symbolised the shift in power that Chelsea had achieved following Mourinho's arrival and underlined the challenge facing Ferguson's side.
Manchester United 3-0 Chelsea (January 2009) A few years later, United responded with one of their finest displays against the Blues. In a match carrying enormous significance in the title race, goals from Nemanja Vidić, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov secured an outstanding 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.
