Mika Godts opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing after being played through by Kevin De Bruyne, as Belgium punished Italy during a difficult first half for the hosts. Italy showed more attacking intent after the break and threatened to find an equaliser, but Belgium remained dangerous on the counter.

Dodi Lukébakio made it 2-0 in the 69th minute, producing an excellent solo strike to put the result beyond Italy and secure all three points for Belgium.
