Man United head coach Michael Carrick discusses Old Trafford future ahead of crucial Premier League encounter with Chelsea

Carrick was expected to be sacked by the Red Devils off the back of the3-0 defeat to Bournemouthin the Premier League last weekend. However, the Englishman has kept his job at the helm and will lead the team into Saturday's Premier League clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Carrick will need to oversee an immediate improvement to stand any chance of keeping his job on a long-term basis. The 45-year-old has insisted that he does not need "any assurances" over his future, as he is only focused on helping to turn the club's season around.

"It's clear from the way the game went. Dealing with that was the main thing, looking at what we could have done better.

Then getting back to training with the players and preparing for the next game against Chelsea." When asked whether he had been given any assurances over his future, Carrick said: "I don't need any assurances from anyone; I get the position and understand the responsibility and what comes with that. I don't need any assurances from anyone.

I'm here to do my job and I'm desperate to improve things. Not since the end of August have the 20-time English champions been victorious in the Premier League, and they have just seven points to show from their eight matches, which has left them down in 16th spot in the Premier League table.

When asked about the outside noise, Carrick said: I don't see it really, I see the things I need to see. I don't look for it because it doesn't help.

I care about what the supporters think, what we give them and offer them, and what they see. I know what we need to do to be better - I don't need anyone else to tell me." Man United have just two victories from their 12 matches in all competitions this season, with their second success coming against Sabah in the Champions League.
