Manchester United tension could trigger Bruno Fernandes exit as Milan lurk

As per Milan News 24, the Rossoneri could be in the fray to move for Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes. Milan's interest in the veteran Portuguese isn't new; they've been monitoring his situation for a while and considered testing the waters earlier in the summer.

Fernandes, arguably one of Man United's best players in the post-Alex Ferguson era, has seen tensions rise with the club in recent weeks, with his comments after his side's defeat to Como landing him in hot waters with Michael Carrick and earning a relegation to the bench for the game against Bournemouth, which United lost as well. Furthermore, the 32-year-old is in the final year of his £16.64m-per-year United contract, though the club have the option to extend it by another year.

His wages would prove to be the biggest stumbling block for Milan to bring him back to Serie A, where he plied his trade earlier in his career, representing Udinese and Sampdoria. Fernandes a man out of time Nothing is set in stone for now, though the fact that Fernandes has spent the majority of his prime at a club that has not shown him a hint of growth in all his time at Old Trafford will be reason enough for the player to get one last big move for the sake of his career.

Milan have their work cut out, though. They, in many ways, are Serie A's version of United, a red-themed under-performing giant with storied history.

They'll need more than what they have right now to lure him to San Siro. Getting back to Champions League and promising a Serie A title charge would be the bare minimum they'd have to offer him going into the next season.

For now, Bruno remains a Red Devil, and while he may leave Old Trafford in the near future, his return to Serie A is anything but a guarantee.
