More than 4,000 girls to compete in MTG Champions League News

Girls participating in the MTG league. The competition, running from 10 to 26 November, will bring together 425 teams across 51 league fields in Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and Tana River counties.
It follows the launch of MTG's 2026 Grassroots League on 21 March at Petanguo League Field in Ganze, Kilifi County. Since then, 8,867 girls have registered across 477 teams, with the programme providing opportunities for sporting development, peer learning and leadership.
The Champions League, introduced into MTG's football programme in 2008, has reached more than 10,000 girls over the years, according to the organisation. Beyond football, the programme incorporates life-skills training and sexual and reproductive health education.
Participants also take up roles as coaches, referees, first aiders and peer educators. MTG Executive Director Dorcas Amakobe said the competition recognises the commitment of girls who participate in the grassroots programme and the communities that support them.
She said the league gives girls from rural communities opportunities to play football, build friendships and develop beyond their daily responsibilities at home. The organisation says its competition pathway connects grassroots participation to higher levels of football, talent identification and further development opportunities.
