No Ghana Premier League club has received promised GHC1m - Gold Stars CEO Akwasi Adu.com - Ghana News Sports, Ghana Business and Ghana Entertainment

Bibiani Gold Stars chief executive Akwasi Adu says none of Ghana's 18 Premier League clubs has received the promised GHC1m financial support, six matches into the 2026/27 season. The funding was announced at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence before the start of the campaign, raising expectations that the money would help clubs meet their financial obligations.
However, with the league already six matches into the season, the funds have yet to reach any of the top-flight clubs, according to Adu. Speaking to Asempa FM, the Gold Stars chief executive said the GFA leadership was expected to meet club representatives to discuss the outstanding payments.
"No Premier League club has received the promised GHC1m, but I know the Ghana Football Association leadership, together with the clubs, will be meeting soon to discuss when the money will be paid to the clubs," he said. The delay has raised concerns about when the financial support will be made available, particularly as clubs continue to cover the costs of competing in Ghana's top division.
Despite the wait for the promised funding, Adu believes clubs must take greater responsibility for their finances rather than depend entirely on the GFA for support. He said clubs should make adequate financial provisions for their seasons while remaining confident that the association would honour its commitment.
"It's an association, and we, the clubs, have decided to join, so we must have money for our season and not wait on the GFA for money, but we are confident the money will be paid," he added. His comments highlight the financial pressures facing clubs in the Ghana Premier League, where the cost of travel, player wages and other operational expenses can place significant demands on their budgets.
The promised GHC1m is expected to provide some relief, although the GFA has yet to deliver the funding, according to Adu. Away from the financial concerns, Gold Stars will turn their attention to their Matchday Seven fixture against newly promoted Debibi United on Sunday, 18 October.
The Miners are hoping to get their league campaign back on track when they travel for the 15:00 GMT kick-off. For now, the immediate concern for Ghana's top-flight clubs remains the outstanding financial support, with the expected meeting between club representatives and the GFA leadership likely to be an important step towards clarifying when the money will be paid.
