Orlando Pirates Captain Nkosinathi Sibisi Warns CAF Champions League Is "A Level Higher" - Diski 365

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi believes the CAF Champions League will provide a major test for the Buccaneers as they prepare to return to the group stages of Africa's leading club competition. The defender has warned his teammates that continental football demands a higher level of performance than domestic competition.

Pirates have made a strong start to their qualifying campaign, but Sibisi knows the real challenge begins when they face some of Africa's most established teams. The Soweto giants want to strengthen their reputation on the continent after falling short in recent campaigns.

With the group stage approaching, the captain believes the competition will reveal how much progress the current squad has made. Pirates secured their place in the group stages with convincing performances in the qualifying rounds.

They overcame La Cure Waves SC by a 3-1 aggregate score before recording a commanding 5-0 victory over African Stars FC. Those results demonstrated their ability to handle their preliminary opponents, although Sibisi recognises that the next stage will bring a different level of difficulty.

Group-stage matches often demand greater tactical discipline, physical strength and concentration, particularly when teams travel to unfamiliar stadiums. The Buccaneers will need to maintain their composure and adapt to different playing styles if they hope to make a serious impact.

"I think the Champions League is a different ball game. I think it's a level higher and I think it's going to be a good test to see where we are as a team," Sibisi said.

His assessment reflects the challenge facing a club with ambitions of competing against Africa's strongest sides. The defender has become an important figure at Orlando Pirates since joining the club in 2022, and his experience will be valuable during the campaign.

As captain, he will also be expected to help his teammates remain focused when matches become difficult. The group stage will provide an opportunity for Pirates to measure their development against opponents with different strengths and approaches.

The Buccaneers also have unfinished business in continental competition after falling short during the previous two seasons. Sibisi explained that the players and technical team have worked to address the weaknesses that contributed to those disappointments.
