The Portuguese Football Federation announced on Saturday that it has opened disciplinary proceedings against Cristiano Ronaldo after he walked out of the national squad's training camp on 30 September following a disagreement with manager Jorge Jesus. The disciplinary inquiry aims to determine any potential sanction against the Portuguese star, who is currently serving a provisional suspension, the federation confirmed in a statement.

The federation has decided to treat the procedure with urgency through its Disciplinary Inquiry Commission, which will be tasked with delivering the final verdict. Ronaldowalked out of the Portugal campon 30 September, on the eve of their Nations League fixture against Denmark, which the Portuguese side won 4-2.

The forward left following a press conference in which manager Jorge Jesus confirmed he would not start for the second consecutive match. In the preceding game against Norway, he did not feature for a single minute despite warming up for more than half an hour.

Ronaldo apologised for his behaviour on 6 October with astatementin which he left the door open to an international return and expressed his willingness to accept punishment for his abrupt departure from the Portugal squad. "I owe an apology to my international teammates for leaving the camp," wrote the 41-year-old five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

"I apologise to the Portuguese people who were there passionately supporting us, and I apologise to the fans," he added in his statement. 'He did not keep his word' The Portuguese talisman justified his walkout by claiming that manager Jorge Jesus "did not keep his word".

Ahead of the match against Norway, Ronaldo explained that Jesus had unexpectedly asked him whether he felt ready to play 30 minutes. He agreed and warmed up from half-time, but was never brought onto the pitch.

The former Real Madrid forward stated that he spoke to Jesus afterwards and agreed that the manager would apologise during the pre-match press conference ahead of the Denmark game, but the media briefing did not unfold as he had anticipated. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that his behaviour warranted disciplinary action.

"The consequences of this action must be assessed and punished by the Portuguese Football Federation. I understand there should be no mitigating circumstances.

I am not just any player; I am the team captain, and that is an aggravating factor," he stated. "I have already apologised, but I know that actions must have consequences," Ronaldo concluded.
