Premier League 2026/27: Man City face tricky Villa test, Man United need to bounce back

The 2026/27 Premier League season has already delivered plenty of talking points, and the latest round of games should continue that trend. Without further ado, read on as we preview the Matchday 8 fixtures, starting with an eye-catching Friday night clash at Portman Road.

Ipswich Town vs Nottingham Forest Nine points from seven matches is a solid haul for newly-promoted Ipswich Town following their return to the Premier League. They gave Manchester City plenty to think about last weekend and will relish the chance to take on lowly Forest this weekend.

The visitors gave Arsenal a fright last Sunday, but are still struggling to pick up results under new manager Oliver Glasner. Aston Villa vs Manchester City City's hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ipswich at the Etihad Stadium maintained their unbeaten start to the league season.

They face a stern test on Saturday, with Aston Villa heading into the game on the back of a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Man City are worthy favourites to win, but it would be no surprise if Villa become the first team to take something off them in the league this term.

Coventry City vs Fulham If Coventry City are to avoid making an immediate return to the Championship, they have to win fixtures against the teams around them in the table. The Sky Blues have collected six points from their first seven games to sit 17th in the table, one point and one place ahead of Fulham.

The Cottagers' 1-0 victory over Hull City last weekend eased the pressure on manager Alvaro Arbeloa, but his team could struggle to follow up at Coventry. Arsenal vs Everton Arsenal have bounced back from their 3-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion before the international break by embarking on a three-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

They had to work hard to secure a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, and those exertions may have taken their toll. However, Everton have failed to beat Arsenal in their last seven meetings (D2, L5), so this is the perfect fixture for the home side.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last weekend moved them up to fourth place in the Premier League table. The result also showed their defence appears to have settled down after a haphazard start to the new campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur's 3-1 victory over Coventry on Monday took them off the bottom of the table, but their positive mood could be short-lived. Hull City vs Brentford Hull City have defied expectations since winning promotion to the top flight, picking up seven points from their first seven games (W2, D3, L2).
