Premier League clubs make decision on Manchester City if they are asked to vote on relegation

Premier League clubs do not want Manchester City to be expelled from the division after an independent commission found the club guilty of all 115 charges levelled against it, as per reports. On Tuesday, the Premier League released an official statement, announcing that Manchester City were guilty of financial breaches over a nine-season period (2009/10 - 2017/18).

While City have appealed the independent commission's ruling, a separate hearing is set to be held to determine punishment. Sanctions range from fines to points deductions and even expulsion from the Premier League.

According to The Telegraph, clubs across the Premier League welcomed teams of legal experts last week to shed light on Manchester City's guilty charges. While some are anticipating harsh punishments, they do not want City booted out of the Premier League.

This is because they believe that the Premier League is better with City in it and fear that their absence could damage the league's global reputation and value. The outlet adds that there is worry among clubs that they might also be investigated for similar practices as City, although on a far lesser scale.

In addition to the potential implications for the reputation of the Premier League, some concerns are that expelling City might lead to the rise of the controversial European Super League. Despite the guilty verdict by the independent commission, Manchester City have continued to deny all charges and have confirmed their commitment to following due process.

It is said that the Premier League are hoping to have the case wrapped up by early 2027. City were first charged in 2023 following a four-year investigation.

Former Manchester City advisor claims club will be relegated after guilty verdict Former Manchester City advisor Stefan Borson has claimed that the club will be handed a "severe" punishment and relegated from the Premier League. "Well, it's obviously pretty unlikely, but there's a storm at the moment and I think it's very hard to pick through what those sanctions might be," Borson toldFootball Insider.

"We're just not at that point yet. They're obviously going to be severe.

We've spoken about it many times. From the very first day, I explained to people that the punishment would be severe and that City would be relegated."
