Police searched the vehicle and confiscated the bow and arrows, but determined that neither man posed a threat to the public.
Police explain why Premier League player was stopped In a statement, Northumbria Police confirmed that officers had responded to reports of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking near a reservoir in the Harlow Hill area. "Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows," police said.
"At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public." Police said their enquiries were ongoing, although they did not publicly identify Dedic in their statement. BBC Sport reported that the soccer player had no malicious intentions and fully cooperated with officers throughout the incident.
By chance, two other professional soccer players, Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and former defender Paul Dummett, reportedly arrived while police were speaking to Dedic. Dedic joined Newcastle United in August 2026 for a reported transfer fee of around £30 million ($39 million).
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has made 10 appearances for the club across league and cup competitions since his arrival. Newcastle United has not publicly commented on the incident.
