Premier League table looking sweet on Sunday night after Sunderland and Newcastle United results

The Premier League table looking interesting after Newcastle United and Sunderland were amongst the teams playing on Sunday. Ten top tier teams in action today, following two playing on Friday and the other eight on Saturday.

It is now eight rounds of Premier League matches that have gone by now and almost a quarter of the way through the season. A fair few surprises amongst the ten results this time.

Friday 23 October Ipswich 1 Forest 1 Saturday 24 October Villa 2 Man City 1 Arsenal 2 Everton 0 Coventry 0 Fulham 1 Chelsea 0 Spurs 2 Sunday 25 October Palace 0 Newcastle United 2 Hull 1 Brentford 1 Liverpool 2 Brighton 0 Man U 0 Bournemouth 3 Sunderland 0 Leeds 0 The Premier League table at close of play on Sunday 25 October 2026 Newcastle United moving up to eighth in the Premier League table after a deserved win at Crystal Palace. A war of attrition in the first half but then United tearing the home side apart in the 20 minutes after the break and then seeing out the win and clean sheet.

Matthias Jaissle getting his tactics right and buoyed by at last having some extra options when picking his team AND when it came to using subs to see out the victory. Meanwhile, Sunderland woeful once again as they saw out a goalless bore draw against Leeds.

The Mackems are rock bottom and look in a desperate state, only one goal scored in four Premier League home matches this season and no EPL team has scored less than Sunderland overall, home and away. Regis le Bris now one of the Premier League favourites to lose his job first as Sunderland looking deep in trouble They fluked it last season when getting a European place despite scoring only 42 goals in 38 EPL matches, only Palace and the the pair who finished in the bottom two places in the Premier League table scored less goals.

A huge relegation six pointer next Saturday as Sunderland are away at second bottom Coventry City. The writing will be on the wall for sure if the Mackems don't win that one, as they then face Chelsea and Villa in the Premier League.

The Wearsiders having picked up only one point from their last five league matches. As for Matthias Jaissle and his Newcastle United team, they next have Everton at home in the Premier League on Monday 2 November.

With the treatment room at last showing signs of helping United towards something like a decent size squad of available players, a place in the top eight as we move out of this weekend is a big relief, and allows Newcastle United fans to look up rather than down with the hope of adding further confidence and momentum when facing the scouse mackems in a cup and league double header. 🎙️ THE MAG PODCAST Ep 12: Newcastle United's Villa misery, Blaydon Races and Football's unfair playing field Listen to the latest episode of The Mag Pod!
