Premier League Weekend Preview With Liverpool, Newcastle and Live Markets

Liverpool's next league test is against a side that has yet to lose. Newcastle's is at home, where their recent form has been stronger than on the road.

Both fixtures arrive on Saturday, 17 October, but the questions facing the two clubs are different. Liverpool must replace a suspended midfielder at Brentford.

Newcastle need better cover when attacks break down. That distinction matters in a weekend preview and also when interpretingfootball live betiing, where match events and the period named in a selection are separate pieces of information.

The story of last Sunday's Liverpool defeat changed after a dismissal, whereas Newcastle's Monday loss raised questions about what happened while they had the ball. Liverpool Must Rebuild the Midfield at Brentford Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute of Liverpool's 3-0 home defeat by Manchester City on 11 October.

The match had been goalless up to that point. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock three minutes later; Jérémy Doku scored in the 68th minute, and Rayan Cherki added City's third in the 78th.

Doku had come on as a substitute before the dismissal. His deflected effort contributed to Haaland's opener, and he soon scored himself.

Liverpool were dealing with both a fresh attacking threat and a numerical disadvantage. The closing half-hour was no ordinary spell of eleven-against-eleven football.

For Saturday's trip to Brentford, there is a more immediate consequence. Gravenberch must serve a one-match Premier League suspension.

Liverpool's coach Andoni Iraola has also been assessing the fitness of Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai, who missed the City game and the subsequent European trip. The line-up will matter as much as the response in attitude.
