Premier League Winners And Losers: Jackson, Carrick, Sage

Nicolas Jackson gave Arsenal an opening, Bournemouth left Manchester United with questions that went well beyond their manager, and Crystal Palace failed another test under Pierre Sage. Our Premier League winners and losers from matchweek eight look at whose weekend changed something, and whose problems became harder to ignore.
Sport's assessment of the weekend's Premier League action. Nicolas Jackson: the difference between pressure and points Manchester City had opportunities at Villa Park.
His two goals secured a 2-1 victory, with the winner arriving just eight minutes after Erling Haaland had equalised. Rather than allowing City's recovery to become the defining passage of the match, Jackson put Villa back in front.
Zion Suzuki deserves substantial credit too. City's own report acknowledged the goalkeeper's contribution as the visitors pressed.
This was not a match Villa controlled throughout. That makes the contributions at either end more significant: Jackson took the chances that mattered, and Suzuki helped ensure those goals were enough.
Bournemouth and James Hill: give the winners their due There is a familiar danger whenever Manchester United lose: the opposition disappears from the discussion. Bournemouth deserve better after winning 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Rayan, Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson supplied the goals, but James Hill's defensive contribution was another reason United could not find a route back. Hill made 10 clearances, three blocks and a clearance off the line, according to Sofascore's match analysis.
The same provider recorded six big chances for Bournemouth and none for United. Those figures support a more substantial verdict than simply calling the hosts poor.
Bournemouth created the clearer openings and defended their own penalty area effectively. Our Manchester United-Bournemouth report covers how they turned that advantage into three points.
