PSV lose ground in Champions League after defeat to Club Brugge

PSV suffered a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League, despite creating several clear chances. Former Ajax forward Carlos Forbs scored the decisive goal for the Belgian side, capitalising on PSV's missed opportunities.
Forbs, who had already squandered three major chances, broke free midway through the second half and finished clinically. The Portuguese winger, revitalised since his move from Amsterdam to Brugge, made no mistake this time.
PSV's lack of goals was not for want of chances. Right-back Sergiño Dest alone had three excellent opportunities but failed to convert each time.
Ruben van Bommel also saw a header cleared off the line. This defeat could prove costly for PSV.
A win would have taken them to seven points and put them within reach of the knockout stage, with nine points likely enough to progress. PSV remain on four points and must now secure results in their final four group matches.
Their next fixture is away to Real Madrid in three weeks, followed by games against Atlético Madrid at home, Viking FK away, and VfB Stuttgart at home. Forbs wastes big chances before half-time Dest will likely replay his missed chances in his mind.
After just eight minutes, he broke through on goal but produced a weak finish. Later in the half, he again failed to beat Brugge goalkeeper Yann Sommer from a promising position.
PSV created further first-half chances, including one for Sven Mijnans, who fired into the side netting from a good position. The home side failed to punish Brugge's defensive lapses.
However, PSV also rode their luck before the break. Club Brugge, who recently beat Internazionale 4-3 in Milan with swift counter-attacks, again exploited the space behind PSV's defence.
