Rangers hold all the cards with regard to Olwethu Makhanya amid reports of Premier League interest

Rangers are well positioned with regard to Olwethu Makhanya amid reports surfacing about potential Premier League interest. Makhanya's valuation has quadrupled since his Rangers move, and given his performances this season, it comes as no surprise.

Fans believe the centre-back has been the Player of the Season so far, and should he keep performing at this level, he will be the one lifting the trophy next summer. Which former Rangers player would you take back in a heartbeat, and why?

Rangers will be unbothered by Premier League sides lurking around Olwethu Makhanya The English press reported that clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga are all keen on signing the centre-back. The South Africa international has impressed at Ibrox since his £3m move this summer, so it comes as no surprise that other sides are keeping tabs.

The same thing happened with Emmanuel Fernandez at this stage last season, but the Nigerian has not been able to maintain that level of consistency. He had the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea keeping tabs, but neither decided to pursue his services this summer.

If Makhanya continues to develop and maintain this level of consistency, there will be a host of clubs willing to take a punt on him next summer. At 22, he's already showing his quality on a weekly basis and will only get better.

Defenders hit their peak in their late 20s, and there's nothing to suggest why he will not develop into a quality Premier League centre-back in the future. That is why some clubs in England would want to sign him on the cheap before his valuation increases in the coming years.

MORE RANGERS STORIES Rangers will absolutely love all of this, as they tied Makhanya down to a contract until 2030 and they also hold the option to extend that by another year. If any Premier League club shows serious interest and the defender wants to leave, the Light Blues are well within their right to demand a record fee for his services.

Until then, they can make the most of him shining week in and week out.
