Sabah Make Champions League History With Win Over Slavia Prague

The competition debutants, who suffered a heavy defeat against Manchester United in their opening match, bounced back with an impressive performance to claim a historic win. Kaheem Parris opened the scoring in the 49th minute, finishing first-time from the edge of the box after connecting with Ivan Lepinjica's cutback.
Parris had earlier found the net in the first half, but his effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review. Slavia Prague pushed for an equaliser and came close when Lukas Provod's hooked effort was saved before his follow-up header was blocked on the goal line by Sabah defender Akim Zedadka.
The visitors later appealed for a penalty after the ball struck Zedadka's arm, but VAR ruled that it had first glanced off the defender's chest before making contact with his arm. Sabah sealed the victory late in the match through a fortunate goal by Joy-Lance Mickels.
Slavia goalkeeper Jakub Markovic came off his line but miscontrolled the ball, allowing Mickels to attempt a weak long-range shot. Slavia defender David Moses appeared poised to clear the effort but stumbled over his feet, allowing the ball to roll into the net and hand Sabah a crucial second goal.
The result extends Slavia Prague's winless run in the Champions League to 21 matches, comprising seven draws and 14 defeats. It is the longest such run in the competition since Romanian side FCSB went 23 games without a victory in 2013.
Slavia Prague will travel to face Fenerbahce on October 21, while Sabah are set to host Borussia Dortmund in their next Champions League fixture.
