Scholes wants Premier League medal if.

Spread the word Manchester United great Paul Scholes has said he would accept a 2011/12 Premier League winners' medal if Manchester City are stripped of the title, putting him at odds with his former teammate Wayne Rooney. The debate followed the Premier League's announcement that an independent commission had found Manchester City guilty of serious financial rule breaches spanning nine seasons, from 2009/10 to 2017/18.

City have appealed the findings and continue to maintain their innocence. The development has triggered discussions among former players over whether City's titles and medals should be reassigned if the club is eventually sanctioned.

Scholes differs from Rooney Rooney, who played alongside Scholes at Manchester United, previously said he would not want the 2011/12 winners' medal because he did not believe United were the true champions of that season. United and City finished the campaign level on points, but City claimed the title on goal difference after a dramatic final day.

Scholes, however, expressed a different view, saying he had noticed former United teammates calling for City's trophies to be removed while simultaneously saying they would not want the medals. In an Instagram post, the former midfielder said he was willing to take the medal, describing himself as a "greedy bastard" and making it clear that he wanted the recognition if it became available.

City appeal financial findings The dispute over the 2011/12 title remains hypothetical because no punishment or decision to reassign the trophy has been finalised. Manchester City have appealed the independent commission's findings and continue to deny wrongdoing.

The outcome of the appeal could determine what sanctions, if any, the club faces and whether the Premier League titles affected by the case will be subject to any changes. Meanwhile, City are set to return to Premier League action after the international break when they face Liverpool at Anfield.
