Schwarzer on saga Aussie football 'absolutely must sort out' plus what Beach's axing means for Socceroos

Legendary Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer would be "very surprised" if Socceroos goalkeeper Mat Ryan is not back in the next national team camp after incumbent No. 1 Patrick Beach lost his starting spot at Troyes in France's Ligue 1.
Speaking with host David Weiner on the latest episode of the Mark Schwarzer Podcast on Football360, Schwarzer described Beach's demotion as the 23-year-old's first real test in European football. Beach was benched for Troyes' 0-0 draw with Toulouse after five straight defeats in which the club conceded 15 goals.
Burkina Faso international Hillel Konate took his place and kept a clean sheet. The Troyes coach had also publicly singled Beach out as a player who needed to do better.
The former Melbourne City player played all four of Australia's matches at the World Cup and then left the A-League for Ligue 1. Ryan, still in great form at Levante in LaLiga, was left out of the squad for September's Brazil friendlies but with the Asian Cup set for January (more on that below), the veteran should be brought back in for November's friendlies against Jordan and Qatar.
"What's key now is how he responds, how he gets his head down, how he works at training, how he tries to improve on his deficiencies, because we all have deficiencies," Schwarzer said of Beach.
